When do I need to refill freon? (air con repair HK/Kowloon/NT)

After annual air con cleaning, do we need to top-up the freon?

After technician clean the indoor air con, the machine should work more efficiency and powerful. It is becasue the mold and dirt in the coil part has been wash away during the cleaning. 

In normal situation, there is no need to top up the freon, unless:

- you find the air con did not produce enough cold air
- you find ice appear at the coil part
- you see some oil/ gas mark around the gas pipe(indoor/ outdoor unit) 

If you concern the freon is not enough for your air con, you can ask technician to check the freon level after they did the cleaning.

If you saw ice at the indoor air con, just switch off the air con and put a towel under the machine. Freon level can measure correctly only if the machine has no ice on it.

Hong Kong's climate is subtropical, it is tending towards temperate for nearly half the year. Due to humidity, the wall and air con can trigger the growth of mold inside the machine.

What is a window type air conditioner?

Window type air con - is a single box/ single machine to product cool air.  The size of the machine usually is big, it is because the motor, condenser, coil, fan... all parts in one unit. This type of all is typical fit to window / window stand. The horsepower of this type of air con is small. (3 horsepower or below) The most popular one will be3/4 & 1 horsepower. 

Since the window air con is only one unit, it is easy to install compare with spare air con or VRV air con. It require 13A/15A electric power for unit below 1.5 horsepower. For 13A socket, u can just plug it in switch. 

There are few things need to pay attention while install the air con

1: Check the size of the air con

We should measure the size of the window before we buy the air con. It can avoid to buy wrong size, or technician can't install it while they arrive. 

2: Check how many horsepower will fit for your room size

If you have a small room and buy a big horsepower air con, the window might be too strong or too cool for it. If you have a big room and buy a small horsepower air con, the electric bill maybe very high after a while, because the air con runs all the time. 

3: Pay attention to the pipe

When you switch on the air con, you will find there are some water come out fm the bottom/ drainage . We should make sure it connect to the drainage of the building/ floor. If you live in a flat, the people downstair might complaint about this if you did not handle it alright.

Thinking to install the split type when you do the renovation? 

While you think about to install a new split type unit. You can consider the following things

- Which brand of the air con I want to buy, there are many in the market : 
Daikin air con, Hitachi air con, Panasonic aircon, General aircon, Gree, Media aircon, Carrier, York, Mitsubishi, Fuji ...  

Daikin air con, the design & factory doing a good job, that make their air con last for long time and easy to maintenance. The new R32 freon also product less pollution to the planet. The price is a bit higher than other unit. But it is good for our next generation and planet. We are happy with their product.

Hitachi Air con, the indoor unit are quite small and some of the outdoor fit in window stand, in this case, customer can indoor the unit on the window stand with out scaffold. Their product also durable. 

Panasonic Air con have a very nice design, the indoor looks beautiful and slim. The price is similar to haitichi, but the only bad news is , you can't buy the part from somewhere else, must be Panasonic side. 

Toshiba air con price is affordable, the outdoor unit work alright most of the time, but we have repaired more than ten indoor unit in this year. Mainly the sensor (indoor unit) was rusty/broken. Since Toshiba unit put the sensor part in the middle front of the indoor unit, a lot of the time the moisture damage the sensor part. We believe they can improve their design.

Gree air con is more affordable compare to the big brand (daikin / hitachi), the machine itself is easy to maintenance but the material / plastic they are using is not as good as other brand.

Our customer who live in deep water bay has request us to clean the air conditioner in his place. His air conditioner has the following problem,

The air con is a fan coil unit in the kitchen has been leaking water for few days, while we do the cleaning, we found the pipe stuck with dust and the coil is a bit oily because it is a ope kitchen and they switch on all the time.

What should I do for my air con during winter time ?  - Hong Kong

After the summer, you may think about how to keep your air conditioner in a good condition during the winter.  If your air con have heating and cooling function, than you can enjoy a warm room during cold weather. 

But if your air conditioner have only cooling function, you might not use it at all. You can clean all the air conditioner and leave it. After the proper cleaning, the duct and mold will not stuck inside the air con and grow. 

If you are not doing the proper cleaning, you can switch on the Fan mode every two weeks / after it rains for 30 mins. It helps the indoor unit stay dry.

Aircon leaks - Sheung Wan/ Sai Kung/ HK

We have received a request to clean and check the air con in Andrew's house in Sheung Wan. He explain the air con did not service/ clean since they move in - few months. And they found the air con start leaks/drop water around the corner few days ago. He believe the air con need to be clean and find out why it leaks.

Our team went to Andrew's house and checked his air conditioners, we found the air con has some dust and the water channel (which carry water fm air con to drainage) are stuck with mold.
