Air Con Installation Part 3: Install Split type air conditioner (Hong Kong)

What to consider while you want to Install Split type air conditioner?

The Split air con have two units, one indoor and one outdoor.

1:Size of the air con
We choose different horsepower based on the size of the room.
For single bedroom, size around 80-100 square ft, (ceiling high less than 2.5m), 1-1.5 horsepower split air con should be enough. If your room facing the sun with glass window you can mention to the technician.

2: Where to put the indoor unit?
For most of the bedroom, we don't suggest install the indoor unit facing the head of the bed or above the bed.
For other location, you may need to install a extra wood board.

3: Where to install the outdoor unit?
For flat in hong kong, most of them have a fixed location for the outdoor unit. Such as window ledge. If not, a scaffolding maybe require for install the AC stand.

The steps for building scaffolding,
- advising the management office of your building (if you live in a flat)
- fill the form , some might require deposit
- ask the contractor to submit all DOC./insurance
- the guy will come to your flat to install the scaffolding, it will take around 1 hour to complete if the size is less then 7 feet
- the technician will come and install the unit
- after testing the air con for 10 days
- ask the guy to remove the scaffold and the job is complete.

How much is a scaffolding for install air conditioner?
The scaffolding company charge depend on the size of the air con, the standard of the scaffold start at 7 feet. The bigger you need the more it cost.

If your air con remote is working but it can't turn on the aircon. It might be the indoor unit receiver/ electric circuit board is broken.

To test your air con control, please try the following steps
1: bring your remote and phone (which have camera function)
2: switch on the camera app
3: press the on/off button of the remote by pointing phone camera
4: if there is no blinking / flashing light while you press the button > it means the remote is not working.
5: Check the battery of the remote and repeat the test again. If it still not working, you might need to buy a new remote.

If the indoor unit do not turn on at all, you can try
1: switch off the button of the socket and switch on again
2: try the emergency button in the air con
If it still not working, you can contact our technician come over to do a proper checking for you.

There are few reasons why your air con leaks

1: Pipe Stuck > the drainage pipe for the condensation runoff is blocked, clean the drainage pipe can solve the problem. You can try the following method, 

Steps :

- Open the cover of the air con

- Take out the filter (should clean it every month)

- Remove whole plastic cover  

- Separating the joint of drainage pipe

- Clean / Vacuum drainage pipe

- Seal the joint back together

- Install the cover back

2: AC too dirty > if you open the cover the air con see the dust and some black dot there, it is the time to clean the air con. 

3: Air con coil part has ice > it is because the Freon is not enough or leaks.

4: The installation issue / aging pipe
