There are few reasons why our air con has bad smell, 

1: Dirty coil or clogged drain 

Both issues could be the main reason. While the air con producing cold air, it absorb the dust into the indoor unit, the dust stuck inside the coil part and become jelly / mold. The solution is a professional air con cleaning and improve drainage. 

2: Smoke/ Odors

If someone smoke inside the house a lot, the odor could stay in the filter and the coil. While you switch on the air con, you may smell stale of cigarette. 
Cleaning the filter once a month or smoke outside the house is a solution. 

3: Open kitchen

Air conditioner easy absorb oil and stream while we cook. These oil and stream stay inside the coil and stick there. It might cause air con leaks too.

Why my air con leaks while raining ?

Our team have serve our customer in Tai Hang area last week. During the cleaning , our customer tells us the air con in the living room leaks during heavy rain.

Our team have check the drain tube/water pipe at the indoor unit, the water go smoothly. So we try to figure out what the problem is.

Then we have check the outdoor unit parts, we found the drain is connect to the main drain of that building. Which might cause the water flow black to the indoor unit.
The reasons could be
- the pressure of the main pipe is very strong during raining
- the level of the drainage pipe is too balance while people install it

We have suggest our customer re-connect the drain pipe and it works. Below is the feedback fm our customer.

Is Disinfection Tablet good for your air conditioner drain system?

A lot of time we found the air con drain system leaks because of dust/jelly stuck inside the pipe. We have did a test by putting disinfection tablet in water for 10 days and compare it with a normal one. 

The result turn out the as below: 

- The disinfection tablet keep the water clean 

- The normal water become a bit yellow after 10 days

In this testing, we found out the disinfection tablet is very useful to your air con system if you have long water pipe or turn on your air con all the time.

How to check is the Freon leaks or not? (Hong Kong)

When Freon leaks you might feel ,

•   the air con is not as powerful as before
•  product less cool air fm the Louvre
•   Ice appear on the coil part – indoor unit
•   Some oil mark around the joint part

To check the leaks, you can make some bubble and put around the pipe and check. Or you can check is there any hole around the pipe.

Some of our customer has build-in pipe, while they drill the hole on the wall they might accidently break the gas pipe.

Sometime when neighbor doing construction/ renovation work, the technician might break the pipe while they drill the wall, because they are not the person who installs the air con.

How to find out the horsepower of my air conditioner – Hong Kong

Air conditioner horsepower

A lot of the time we can check the air con information label to find the model, horsepower, freon type, where it made of the air con.  While you find the model number , just google it.

For split type unit - indoor:

The information of Daikin/ General Air Con/ Hitachi/ carrier / Gree unit are locate at the right hand side of the air con . Some of the old model have that on the bottom.

For Daikin the number:

FTWS 25 = 1 horsepower

FTWS35= 1.5 horsepower

FT 50= 2 horsepower

FT 60= 2.5 horsepower

FT 71= 3 horsepower

For Hitachi :

RA 08 = ¾ horsepower

RAS DX 10 = 1 horsepower

RAS DX13 = 1.5 horsepower

RAS DX18 = 2 horsepower

RAS E24 = 2.5 horsepower

Tosiba’s air con label usually locate at the bottom of the air con. 

The other way to check the horsepower is the check the BTU.

For Window air con :

The information label locate inside the air con or the outdoor part, so it is hard to find.
